Match Reports - Jim Taylor Cup 2nd round - 13/11/13

The Jim Taylor Cup 2nd round sees Didcot Conservatives 'B' vsit the comrades, although there is no 'A' side anymore and 3 of them now make up the 'B'.

First out of the hat is the most experienced member of the team Brian Orton making his second outing this season and this time with both eyes now functioning. A comment from Dave Rowe was 'Brian with 2 good eyes is like having a new player signed on'. The game itself aginst Bob Higginson was just a 'stroll in the park' for Brian.

Dave Rowe now takes over the narative.

Phai Pirom up next against ex Didcot A player Phil Organ. He played a solid frame with his now familiar potting balanced with sensible safety play. The frame was decided on the colours after Phil had clawed his way back only to see Phai nail the blue to make the frame safe.

Andy Rance was drawn against another ex Didcot A player Lee Hughes. Andy generously allows his opponent to open up a 19 point lead including missing the pack of reds completely at one point. Andy's opponent then has a run of in offs into the middle pockets allowing Andy back into the frame and onward to a comfortable 58-33 win and seeing them through to the next round.

In for the dead rubber fourth frame came' Mr consistent' aka 'Dave 100% Rowe' taking on Dave Aries. With the aid of his deadly accurate potting he strolls to a 68-27 victory, never once looking like losing.

Making a special effort to get to the venue from afar was an old adversary of many a Comrades team, the Welsh wizard Wayne Evans. He wished he hadn't bothered as Rob House made amends for a non starter the previous week. Rob starts off with a blinding 39 break (unlucky not to have been a 50+) and quickly opens up a 50 plus lead. The frame develops into a game of cat and mouse and with both players missing straight forward chances. However Rob comfortably ends up a convincing winner by 68 points to 8.
