D&DS&BL Week 7 Match Reports

Only one Wallingford Team in action this week as the A & B Team sit out bye weeks.

Wallingford A v RAF Benson
(Match report by Captain KP... edited by your Rep)

Frame one saw Captain Kevin taking on Richie Greatley.  The Skipper always in control of things using all of his years of experience to come out a easy winner 45-1O to put the C Team in the lead 1-0.

Frame two saw young Joey Edwards take on Daz Gaukwin.  This was always going to be a tough ask of young Joey as Daz is the holder of the highest break in the league (37) last season.  It was never going to be a easy task & with two breaks of 20 or more there was nothing that look-a-like Andy Hicks (Joey) could do to stop Daz levelling the match at 1-1 with a final frame score of 8-80.

In frame three Alan Wells was up against Aaron Coombes.  The young man from Benson got off to a fast start to take a 20 lead, but Alan clawed himself back into the frame needing pink and black to win.  Unfortunately for Alan the pink rattled in the pocket & sat there for his opponent to secure the frame, 28-47 to make it 1-2 to RAF Benson.

In the fourth frame, young Jake was to take on the Competition Secretary of the league Sam Beasant (thanks for drawing me against David Rowe in the Novices said Captain KP!).  Jake seems to have a good technique, but needs to sort out his stance to provide a solid base.  With more matches under his belt & a little guidance, it will come.  Unfortunately for Jake, Sam was far too good for Jake, closing the frame out 11-44 making it 1-3.

In the final frame five, Hugh Baker (playing with a Club cue as his tip came off the day before) faced Bryan Kettle.  The frame was nip and tuck all the way, but Bryans long game was unbelievable.  Both players had they chances, but it was to be a win for Bryan a very close game on the pink to win, 47-56 making the final frame score 1-4.

May l say a big Thank You to stand-in Bar Staff, Tina for providing the supper sandwiches and Benson for playing in such a sporting manner.

So, with that loss, C Team drop below RAF Benson in the 3rd Division, but should take solace from the fact they retain 2nd place in the League.

All Wallingford Teams are in action next week; the A Team travel to newly promoted Harwell RBL A, the B Team host Wantage (who will no doubt be looking to avenge their last visit to Wallingford when they left with no points v the A Team!) & the C Team travel to Marlborough to face the C Team (2nd Division) who are just 1 point behind them on level games!

See you on the practice tables... when I've re-tipped Hugh's cue!
