How do you fancy trying to get out of this snooker?!

During Wallingford A Teams visit to Crown Technology tonight, in the final frame this situation arose!

Dave Greathead was playing Anthony Whitton & with the last red on the table, Anthony clipped off the red to try to lay a snooker, pushing it between the pink & brown in the D.  Anchorman had about 1/8th of an inch of the red to clip off (checking his eyesight!), which he did, nestling the red tightly between the pink & brown & sending the cue ball down towards the black!   Hell of a shot & a stinker of a snooker!

Anthony tried to work out the angle whilst Dave's A Team mates commented about the employment of the 'miss' rule!  The ref joked "We don't play the miss rule at our level!".  To which we said "So long as you know 'Free Ball'!!!"

Anthony missed the get out (it was an awful snooker!), giving a foul & fairly obvious free ball.  Dave did no more than nominate black & clipped off the side of it to lay the cue ball behind the blue (as per the photo)!!!  No mercy!  Dave nonchalantly walked away from the table with a grin like a Cheshire Cat & sniggering like Muttley!

Needless to say, Anthony tried to swerve round the blue to hit what was an impossible snooker, but hit the blue (& thankfully for him), then clattered into the pink, red & brown to resolve the situation which could have kept him there all night!

Just goes to prove the old adage of 'Youth & Exuberance are no match for Age & Treachery', eh Daddy G?

No match for the B Team this week as they sit out their bye week & cross fingers that Abingdon RBL & Abingdon Con share (or as close as they can do) points & the A Team drop points (sorry lads! It didn't happen!) after they've sat top for the last 3 weeks while Team Cups have been played. Have you ever seen a 4-way tie at the top of the Premier/1st Div?! Even Chairman Bob Elliott said he couldn't remember it even from 'back in the day'!

C Team travel to Marlboro C & lose the deciding frame for a 2-3 loss. Kev finds ex-Prem player Stuart Foley too much to handle with a 23-70 loss. Alan redresses the balance to level it at 1-1 with a 53-29 win v Ken Cooper. Hugh has a close high scoring frame but loses out 45-56 v Dave Bradshaw. Adam christens his new cue with a convincing 56-19 win v Andy Patterson before Ade Jackson seals the match win with a 59-34 win over Ben. Unlucky lads!
