D&DS&BL Week 7 match reports

On Halloween (with a Full Moon!), it was one scary extreme to another for the Wallingford Teams this week!  The A Team get their first 5-0 win (BOOH!  Scared yet?  LOL!), but the B Team get their first 0-5 defeat (now that is scary!).

Wallingford A had a home fixture v Crown Technology (who only had 4 players!).  Captain Pete started nicely with a convincing win 68-32 v an 'off colour' Olly Walker.  Nigel 'VC' Prior follows this with a 'toughed out' win 43-24 v Paul Claydon.  Tom Williams plays a lovely 3rd frame & when all his team mates were convinced he was going to slot in the first 25+ break of the season for the A Team, misses a straight forward black with more reds at his mercy!  There was no 'fright' in the end for Tom though & despite gallant efforts by his opponent Steve Digby, Tom ran out a winner by 58-33.  Kev 'Cuz' Higgs played the Crown 'Demon', Andy Harper who potted some outrageously good shots!  Unfazed by this, Cuz still won by 42-32 but not before scaring all the team & giving them collective heart failure when, with the frame won, narrowly misses going in-off the pink after potting 'frame ball' blue!  Poor 'Anchorman' Dave Greathead (fresh from a win in his Club Veterans 1st round match) gets a Walk-Over!  And with 7 matches played, DG is still seeking his first win of the season (damn SICK & BYE weeks!)... maybe next week in 'The Shed' at Fairmile Dad?  Don't forget your 'short cues' boys!

The 5 points gained by the A Team sees them meteorically rise in the table to 3rd!!!  Helped somewhat by the teams who were above having their BYE weeks & Abingdon RBL losing 1-4 at home to Fawley (!) - it'll even itself out... but Abingdon are looking pretty hot so far this season!

Wallingford B went Trick or Treating over to Abingdon Con A & despite promises of 'goodies' from the A Team for every point/winner, came away with their points bag empty!  Captain Kev Pickworth lost 21-58 to ex-Marlborough Captain, Steve James.  Dave 'Mr 100%' Glaves lost 32-80 to Olly Hoeblyn who made a substantial 39 break in the process.  Poor Bob Elliott had another 'high' break put past him in losing24-69 to Nigel Barker who made a 35.  The B Team 'blooded' a new signing (what a match to be your 'first' v the Premier Division leaders!) & they welcomed David Rowe (who Captain Kev said played very well & has a nice smooth cue action... reminiscent of his team-mate Rob House... who ironically Dave was standing in for!).  Unfortunately Dave lost 22-64 to another Dave, their Captain, Dave Lewis who made breaks of 28 & 24 (welcome to the Prem/1st Division!).  In the last frame Andy Rance couldn't summon one of his regular high breaks as he lost 25-77 to Jamie Szacjak who made a 30 break.  Thank goodness Halloween's only once a year eh?
