D&DS&BL Week 18 Match Reports

A late match report this week (bloody work getting in the way of 'important' stuff!) & the A Team travelled to Crown Technology whilst the B Team hosted Abingdon Con A.

At Crown (on a very quick cloth), Captain started with a nice 24 break but missed the split on a pack of 10 reds off the 3rd black (D'OH!) & from that point on lost his way & focus.  Anthony Whitton did enough to claw back the deficit & took a nice easy blue & pink but a very impressive long cut on the black to win 46-45!  0-1 down... but the A Team are made of stern stuff...

Nigel 'VC' produced another of his (now trademark) demolition frames in the 2nd v Paul Claydon.  Nigel, obviously keen to get his High Break back was in perfect position on 33 & had to get the rest out to play a straight forward red to drop on the black (which would've made 41 & put him back in the lead on the High Breaks) but amazingly missed the red, landing perfectly on the black!  It was to make little difference to the final score though, which was a win for VC by 69-1!  1-1!

Tom was up 3rd & had a scrappy frame v Steve Digby where a gaggle of reds went safe on the side rail.  He showed good restraint & composure to 'tough it out' but it was pretty close down to the colours.  Tom took the last red with a yellow & made a frame securing 17 (including a lovely long pot on brown) to leave himself an easy blue to make the frame safe, 45-23.  2-1 up!

Jon 'Hawkinator' was on 4th, stepping up from the subs bench & he also had a scrappy frame v T Russell.  It was a dour affair, being fairly nip & tuck in the early stages.  Mid frame Jon commented 'If I lose this, I'm quitting snooker!'.  Fortunately, there was no cause for concern (or reaching for mothballs for his cue case!), it was just one of those frames that wasn't pretty!  Jon was always the favourite & in the end won by a convincing score line of 51-13.  3-1 up!

Dave 'Anchorman' was on in his usual last place v R Cole.  Dave put in another good solid performance to mop up the last point in (another) convincing winning score line of 65-21.  4-1 away win!

So the A Team secured 4 away points during a week where Wantage (the team above them in the Premier League) had a bye week.  That 4 points put us 1 point behind them & they sit out the last week of the season in their last bye.  Match their points in the remaining 4 matches (taking at least 2 in the final match) & we'll secure Runners Up!

Meanwhile, back at Wallingford, the B Team faced a stern challenge against the 'Champions elect' Abingdon Con A (who are flying high on Played 16, Won 16!).

It was a dream start for the B Team as Dave 'Club Singles Champ' Rowe compiled a lovely 32 break (equalling the 1st Divisions current High Break!) in a pretty one-sided frame, winning 63-24 v Simon James.  1-0!

Frame 2 saw 'Captain' Kevin playing Colin Bark.  Kev tried his hardest but Colin was a bit too strong for him winning 79-27 with mini breaks of 20 & 16.  1-1.

In the 3rd frame Pete Beaumont played Nigel Barker (current High Break holder in the Prem with an 86!).  Pete faught valiantly & took Nigel to the green (not a bad performance Pete, considering!), but ended up losing 22-52 making it 1-2 in frames.

Rob House faced Over 50s Semi Finalist Dave Lewis in the 4th & after 11 reds it was 12 points all!  Rob then built up a useful 18 point lead, needing just one ball on the colours & looked like the winner... until Dave potted pink & black to to win a frame he should have lost 38-41 making it 1-3.

In the 5th & final frame of the match, Andy Rance played Jamie Saczak.  It was not the best of frames with Jamie coming out a easy winner by 61-31 making the final score a 1-4 home defeat.  Good effort B Team, but they're a solid winning outfit & will (most likely) be Champions... this year!

More league fixtures next week with the A Team hosting Fairmile & the B Team travelling to Wantage.
