Club Championships Finals Night

Please excuse the lateness of the report!
13th December was Club Finals night!
The Veterans Final was contested between the Club Secretary (& organiser...what was his handicap?), Brian Orton of the B Team & Alan Wells of the C Team.
For Alan, it was not to be the inaugural dream debut in the Final (in his first year in the Comrades!  Well done Sir!), but he certainly made Brian work for the win.
The Billiards Final was contested between Pete Billingham of the A Team & current holder, Rob House of the B Team (in a repeat of last years Final).
It was Pete who took the honours this time & he quipped afterwards that the trophy was only 'borrowed' from Rob until next year!
The Singles was an all B Team affair with Rob House facing current holder, Dave Rowe.
Both players would agree it wasn't the scintillating final we all hoped for, with both showing a lot of mutual respect (plus the balls went awkward on the rails), which meant for a couple of real 'grinding' frames.
It was to be a second successive Singles Title for Dave Rowe!  Well done Dave, a very impressive achievement (will you be negative handicap next year?).
The Doubles Final was also an all B Team affair with Rob pairing with Simon Ellam & facing the current Champions, Dave Rowe & Nigel Woods.
After 2 losses in the Billiards & Singles Finals, Rob House was quite anxious to finish a very busy night with something more than Runners Up!
The match finished around midnight (when most other spectators & finalists had left & I feel that a 'Thank You' is due to Oz & Lucy for their understanding & allowing the match to finish well past Closing Time!).
Congratulations to Rob & Simon who won their first Doubles Title!
Congratulations to all the respective winners & commiserations to all the Runners Up.
Thank you to Brian for organising all the House Tournaments & also thanks to Russ Hawkswell for the lovely glass trophies (ironically, he was a recipient of one of his own trophies for Runners Up in the Darts! Well done Russ!).

Thank you to all the competitors who entered & as they say 'Next year!'.
