D&DS&BL Week 3 Match Reports

Week 3 match report a little late - obviously the B Team not too worried about shouting from the roof tops that they are TOP of the Premier!

With the A Team having a BYE week, which coincided with the C Teams BYE week, it was only the B Team in action this week.

Challow B v Wallingford B

With the reporter busy at the start of the match, Simon Ellam kicked off proceedings against Barry 'Mr £300 Paris cue' Alexander.  It was a long drawn out affair (the frame lasted well over the hour!), but not surprising with a whole bunch of reds gathered on the right hand cushion.  Simon went ahead by about 20 at one stage, then Barry pulled it back to almost level with a string of good pots.  But Simon, not at his imperious best as he was in first match of the season pulled away again & keeping it relatively tight took the first frame by 55-28 to put the B Team 1-0 up.

It was about 8:45pm by the time the first frame was over & as the other table was not being used, the remaining 4 frames were played on both tables.

Dave Rowe struggled greatly with the table in the corner against Gordon Izzard.  With 3 or 4 reds left on the table the score was at 13-12!  Dave eventually remembered where the pockets were & ran out a fairly comfortable winner at 46-12 making it 2-0.

Pirom (otherwise known as Phai) on the other hand took Bob Baker to the cleaners!  He missed very little & left Bob very little (by design).  In fact Bob, who had by all accounts played an excellent frame the week before scored just 2 points of his final tally of 6.  He had maybe 2 other chances but didn't take them.  Phai ran out a 52-6 winner to make it 3-0.

Captain Andy didn't really get to see Rob House's match against their new signing from the recently folded Fawley team Ricky 'Gobshite' Delahunt (his own self description!).  There was plenty of colourful commentary from Ricky, mostly about his own ability.  It was a very close affair with Ricky potting the blue and pink to take the frame 60-46.  Rob was a bit gutted.

As for Captain Andy, he thought it wasn't going to be his night.  Dave Ellis put him in some really horrendous positions to start with & capitalised from them.  Dave looked confident with a few accurate firm pots to take a 20 point advantage before Andy started to turn it around.  Considering it was 'that' table in the corner, Andy was surprised by how well he potted to run out a 59-26 winner to make the final score 4-1 & return the B Team to the top slot in the combined Premier & 1st Division.

All Wallingford Teams are in action next week; the A Team are away v Marlboro B, B Team are home to newly promoted Harwell RBL A & the C Team are away v Didcot Con B (where I dare say they will be determined to reclaim their own top spot in the combined 2nd & 3rd Division after sitting out on their BYE week).

REPS NOTE.  The Comrades Club have recently invested in a brand new complete set of match balls for table 4, new cue balls on each table, re-clothed tables 1 & 4 & had routine maintenance on tables 2 & 3!  This was necessary maintenance & at considerable expense, so please treat the tables & balls with the respect they deserve.
A guest visitor at the Club this week commented on how impeccable the tables prep were!  Thanks is due to the Club, the Secretary Brian Orton & to our resident Table-Man, John Beardsley!
