D&DS&BL Week 15 Match Reports

Week 15 of the League sees the A Team sitting out with their last bye week (but having a good practice session to keep sharp for next weeks John Evans Cup QFs), whilst the B Team travel the short distance to face Fairmile in 'The Garage' (reference to the cramped, rather intimate accommodation...short cues & 'Excuse Me's' being the order of the day!).

'Captain' Kev, fresh from his maiden win last week started off proceedings with a modest 10 break v Phil 'Fast-track' Collins (his FB tag!), but then Phil found a red from nowhere & proceeded to make a fabulous 61 break (with 3 reds left!) & he was unlucky missing a red with a 100 looking like a formality!  Kevin's eventual score was a 38-82 loss, 0-1.

Frame two saw the battle of the two Andy's with a welcome return to a Fairmile stalwart, Andy Moyser who faced our own Andy Rance.  Andy Rance played a much better frame this week (must be all the practice with 'The Hawkinator'?!) & put in a great performance beating Andy Moyser 67-32 to make it 1-1!

In Frame 3 Dave Glaves (making only his 5th appearance this season!) found it hard to adjust to the table & cramped conditions and Aaron Tame came out an easy winner 16-46, so the B Team were now 1-2 down!

Step up Club Singles Champion, Dave Rowe!  Dave played a great safety game and with his consistent high standard of scoring came out the winner over Stuart Foley by 52-26 to level the match at 2-2!

So, with the scores level & the last frame between Dennis Finnon & Rob 'Billiards Champion' House, the B Team were banking on grabbing the all important 1 point advantage over their nearest League rivals!  However, as we all know, single frame snooker can be, shall we say... unpredictable!  Captain Kev reported that he 'didn't know how Rob lost', but in fairness to Dennis Finnon, he's a canny and experienced player (Daddy G would probably add 'fortunate' to that description!), but the 44-72 score line indicated a 'pot-fest' with Dennis grabbing the win by 3 frames to 2 for Fairmile.

Quote 'Captain' Kev... 'could have done with that one'!

So, Fairmile move above the B Team in the League, on level points but more matches won.  B Team hold a healthy 5 point advantage over Fawley, but with Fawley having 2 matches in hand the B Team will need to secure a 10 point cushion before the last 2 weeks of the season in order to record back-to-back Runners Up seasons for Division 1!  You can do it!

A break in League proceedings next week with the John Evans Cup Quarter Finals.  The A Team travel to 1st Division leaders Challow B (that won't be a 'gimme'!) & the B Team having a home draw v their 1st Division rivals Marlboro B (& neither will that!).  3 frames lads... just 3 winning frames will see you proceed through to the Semi Finals (& another outing for the smart trousers!).
