And quickly following on with the next WCC Centenary Post (Snooker Rep playing catching up with a few missed weeks) is Number 12 which is the hand written D&DB&SL End of Season League Tables from 1989-90.
Wallingford A Team retained their Premier Division Title for the 2nd year, with Wantage Comrades A Runners Up.
Wallingford B were 6th in the Premier whilst Wallingford C were sadly relegated from Division 1.
Wallingford A made it a League & Cups treble as they won the Jim Taylor AND John Evans Cups, thereby setting a new benchmark by being the first team to achieve that in only the 2nd year of the Premiership being formed.
C. Smart & B. Milner won the Doubles whilst Dave Hammond & a certain Nigel Prior (then of Marlborough) won the 2 Man Team. Neil Robinson won the Under 23s Title & Dick Hashman, who used to do The Herald Newspaper Series Snooker write-ups won the Billiards. Dave Alton won the 'Blue Riband' Singles Title.
A special mention for (now) fellow Comrade, John Menzies who was winner of the Highest Break Trophy in Division 3 with a 41 when he was playing for Goring & Streatley A team.
Another award which was started this very year was the Wallingford Comrades Club prestigious Tanner Trophy for Player of the Year. It was its inaugural year & has been presented yearly ever since (thank you Phil Hall & of course, Bob Tanner). It was awarded to 'Super' Stu Mogford after a sterling season representing the A Team, finishing on 89% with a handful of breaks to go with his Crib Pairs House Competition win with Nicky Somarakis as mentioned in Centenary Post #11.
Again, feel free to message me with any contributions of your own which you may have (photographs, newspaper cuttings, etc.) & I'll add them to the feeds.
