A Team start 2014 with a 5-0 win at home to Challow C! Aaron keeps his 100% (in the League-damn that Cup loss eh!) with a black ball 54-47 over Under 23s Champion, Jason O'Hanlon. Tom crushes an off form Chris Rose, 56-9. Nigel struggles to string anything together (9 pots, all reds & 9 points!) to then slot in a 25 clearance beating Robin Gray, 50-12. Cuz (with 'borrowed' cue!) beats matt Dixey, 50-24 before Anchorman also slots in a 25 beating Adam Bruce, 53-47! Well done A Team, take 2 weeks 'break'!

No match for the B Team until their Jim Taylor Cup Quarter Final next week v Abingdon RBL! After a few practice frames, they go for a 'Farewell Drink' to say Goodbye to Phai, who moves to a new job in Leatherhead! Good luck in your new job Phai, you will be sadly missed by all your B Team mates, all the players from the A & C Teams & members who have taken to your genial manner, quality play & all your little quips! Please come back & play in our end of season tournament, you will be most welcome!

C Team win 3-2 at home to Harwell B as their talisman, Pete Beaumont returns! Joey starts with promise, slotting in nice pots before succumbing 23-42 to L Archer. Pete then levels it with a demolition 43-9 win over D Russel. Hugh wins 46-30 v Ryan Cload to put them 2-1 up. Alan seals the win with an even bigger demolition, 67-9 (including a lovely 22 break). Poor Captain KP, hoping for a good personal start to 2014, loses out narrowly, 40-44 to T Cload. Unlucky Kev, but a win's a win!

Club Championships Finals Night

Please excuse the lateness of the report!
13th December was Club Finals night!
The Veterans Final was contested between the Club Secretary (& organiser...what was his handicap?), Brian Orton of the B Team & Alan Wells of the C Team.
For Alan, it was not to be the inaugural dream debut in the Final (in his first year in the Comrades!  Well done Sir!), but he certainly made Brian work for the win.
The Billiards Final was contested between Pete Billingham of the A Team & current holder, Rob House of the B Team (in a repeat of last years Final).
It was Pete who took the honours this time & he quipped afterwards that the trophy was only 'borrowed' from Rob until next year!
The Singles was an all B Team affair with Rob House facing current holder, Dave Rowe.
Both players would agree it wasn't the scintillating final we all hoped for, with both showing a lot of mutual respect (plus the balls went awkward on the rails), which meant for a couple of real 'grinding' frames.
It was to be a second successive Singles Title for Dave Rowe!  Well done Dave, a very impressive achievement (will you be negative handicap next year?).
The Doubles Final was also an all B Team affair with Rob pairing with Simon Ellam & facing the current Champions, Dave Rowe & Nigel Woods.
After 2 losses in the Billiards & Singles Finals, Rob House was quite anxious to finish a very busy night with something more than Runners Up!
The match finished around midnight (when most other spectators & finalists had left & I feel that a 'Thank You' is due to Oz & Lucy for their understanding & allowing the match to finish well past Closing Time!).
Congratulations to Rob & Simon who won their first Doubles Title!
Congratulations to all the respective winners & commiserations to all the Runners Up.
Thank you to Brian for organising all the House Tournaments & also thanks to Russ Hawkswell for the lovely glass trophies (ironically, he was a recipient of one of his own trophies for Runners Up in the Darts! Well done Russ!).

Thank you to all the competitors who entered & as they say 'Next year!'.
