WCC Centenary Post #10
Can you identify the person in the picture?
Ok, so the big fella on the right is quite easily identifiable for those who know their darts. None other than the first winner of the World Professional Darts Championship back in 1978, Leighton 'Marathon Man' Rees. Leighton was from Glamorgan, Wales & sadly passed away in June 2003.
The picture was taken some time in the late 1970s at the ABM (Associated British Maltsters) Sports Club, when the moustachioed young dude on the left was playing Darts 5 nights a week & in his mid 20s. He is a long-standing member of the Wallingford Comrades Club & is also an ex-C Team player (during the Kevin Pickworth/Adam Beasley Captaincy era). Any guesses?
As always, feel free to message me with any contributions of your own which you may have (photographs, newspaper cuttings, etc.) & I'll add them to the feeds.

WCC Centenary Post #9
John Spencer was born on 18th September 1935 & sadly passed away on 11th July 2006. He was an English Professional Snooker player who won the World Professional title at his first attempt (1969), was the first winner at the Crucible Theatre, the inaugural winner of the Masters & Irish Masters & was the first player to make a 147 break in competition (sadly not televised as the Camera Man had famously gone on a 'break' & missed the break!). He won the World Championship again in 1971 & 1977.
In the picture are (L - R), Ron Brewer (holding cue), Unknown male (looking over shoulder), 'Jimmy' James (Father of Alan), John Spencer, Unknown male (in chequered jacket), Bill Billingham (holding cue), 3 Unknown males (all holding cues) & Harry Aldridge (Comrades Chairman, 1960-71).
If anyone can assist with identifying the year or any of the unidentified people in the picture, please feel free to comment or contact me. It would be nice to commit these memorabilia to print for future generations.
And again, feel free to message me with any contributions of your own which you may have (photographs, newspaper cuttings, etc.) & I'll add them to the feeds.

WCC Centenary Snooker Post #8
As you can see, Wallingford A Team won the inaugural Premier Division Title, fending off their arch rivals Wantage A by a very healthy 12 points!
Wallingford B were a very respectable 4th in the 12 teams-strong Premier Division.
Wallingford C kept their seat in the First Division, consigning QAD A (ask Vic Hartley!) & Harwell RBL B to the drop to the Second Division.
Wallingford D also had a 4th place finish in the Second Division, sandwiched between Wantage Police A & AERE Police A - far too easy for me to make a comment on that.
Abingdon Con A won the Jim Taylor Cup & Marlborough A won the John Evans Cup.
In Singles & Pairs events, Gerald Francombe won the Singles, Dave Alton & Len Pickett (Wantage A) won the Doubles & as mentioned in WCC Centenary Post #6, young Stuart Mogford secured the Under 23s Title!
Thank you to Phil Hall for supplying me with the copy.
Again, feel free to message me with any contributions of your own which you may have (photographs, newspaper cuttings, etc.) & I'll add them to the feeds.
